Internet content provider Asian Information Resources (AIR) has made its first foray into e-commerce with the formation of three partnerships.

It will launch three e-commerce portals with separate partners next month offering mortgage brokerage services, textile trading and an on-line store for Chinese collectables.

The company, listed on the Growth Enterprise Market last week, holds stakes ranging from 10 to 40 per cent.

It will also provide content and Web-related technology to the proposed operations.

'E-commerce spending in Greater China will increase from US$298 million this year to an anticipated $9.05 billion in 2003,' said Chan Chi-ming, managing director of Asian Information Resources.

'We are confident that in the long run e-commerce will become the major income contributor to AIR.' Mr Chan declined to disclose the investment amount or the expected return in the projects.
