HONGKONG captain Pat Fordham was named the Hongkong Cricket Association's Connaught Player of the Year last night.

Fordham, who led the territory to victory over Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia in the Tuanku Ja'Afar Cup in Bangkok last February, also helped Kowloon Cricket Club's Templars to the Sunday League and Rothmans Cup double.

Hongkong retained the Tuanku Ja'Afar Cup beating hosts Thailand by 119 runs to complete a clean sweep of their rivals in the four-team Southeast Asia tournament. Fordham won the admiration of teammates and officials alike with his all-round performance and astute captaincy.

He also represented the territory with distinction at October's Sixes against Australia and Pakistan.

Hongkong Cricket Association selectors in conjunction with Connaught chose Fordham, who averaged over 100 for Templars and has performed consistently as a wicketkeeper.
