Kan has Prize in sights for Valley specialist
Grand Prize looks hard to tip out of the first three in the first leg of tomorrow's Happy Valley Triple Trio.
Brian Kan Ping-chee, the much-respected doyen of the local trainers, has his team in great form and stable jockey Jimmy Quinn is not to be underestimated on this type of horse.
Quinn was more than equal to the occasion on Floral Joy in the Millennium Cup and a double on the night will have done wonders for his confidence.
He can bounce Grand Prize out from barrier one and if he doesn't lead, he should get the perfect trail into the race. Grand Prize, just like Quinn, goes particularly well at the Valley and is ideally suited by the Class Four mile handicaps at the city venue.
Topweight Laser Pride should have been some 2.5 lengths closer last time and merits respect. His apprentice jockey, Roger Yu, is just about the best value in town and won't be long in losing his five-pound claim.
Cheerful will find the drop back into Class Four to his liking and could be a TT roughie.
Golden Bullet rattled home into second behind Concert Star on Friday but could have been a bit lucky as there was so much interference on the inside. He's going to come from off the speed and while he's now going well for Andy Leung Ting-wah, there is no guarantee of the fast tempo he enjoyed last time.
Star Of Wah Yan likes the Valley and with Tony Millard's horses running so well, he comes into TT calculations. Cool Running will be up on the pace and might hold on for a place.
Many Happy Returns loves the Valley mile and could be the answer to the fourth event, the Audemars Piguet 125th Anniversary Stakes and the middle pin to the TT. He popped up for a long-odds placing at Sha Tin last time but is even better at the Valley.
Decouvert has suffered for a wide-margin early-season win but this is easier. He can get the cover he needs from barrier three.
Impressionist is improving all the time for the master mentor Ivan Allan and should run well.
Perfect Star may be best of the others as the in-form Brilliant Way is probably better at Sha Tin and Strikers may be losing his form.
Superior Dollar is improving all the time and looks the one in the sixth, which concludes the TT.
Those either side of him on the card, Forever Victory and Toy Symphony, are clear form dangers.
