A mainland overstayer camped outside Victoria Prison wears a gag with the words 'protest, hunger strike' yesterday.

About 10 hunger strikers last night carried on the vigil for a fourth night outside the jail, demanding the release of 29 mainlanders held inside who are also refusing to eat. The Government said the inmates' health was 'fine'.

Parents and supporters of the overstayers, led by Father Franco Mella, met an immigration official yesterday, but the department insisted they would not be freed.
