A 10-year-old schoolboy was reunited with his parents yesterday after wandering the streets of Wong Tai Sin and sleeping rough in a park for almost four days.

Primary Five student So Wai-lok's ordeal began when he left Po Yan Primary School in Tung Tau Estate, Wong Tai Sin, on Friday night.

A search was launched when his parents told police their son had failed to return home to nearby Tai Tung House.

'I only wandered in the streets around Wong Tai Sin for the past few days. During the day, I wandered in shopping arcades or played in gardens,' Wai-lok told police.

'At night I found shelter in parks where I slept on benches.' The boy said he did not return home because he had not performed well at school and feared his parents would scold him.

Police said the boy had money to buy food.

He was found wandering in a park outside Cheung Tung House on Tung Tau Estate by policemen at about 1.30am yesterday.

The officers said the boy appeared in good health. He was picked up by his parents, who refused to comment.
