The Lok Ma Chau checkpoint is be improved, with an expanded passenger hall and more Customs and immigration counters to cater for a daily average of 35,000 passengers.

The cost is estimated at $1.19 billion, legislators were told.

'The latest traffic forecast for the Lok Ma Chau crossing suggests that cross-boundary passenger and freight traffic will continue to increase at an annual rate of about nine per cent,' said a government paper. Legislators will be asked to approve the money next week.
