Roller-coaster minibus ride
After reading the letter 'Concerned about risky high-speed journeys' (South China Morning Post, December 8), I wish to share my experience as a commuter on the Sheung Shui KCR station to Tong Kung Leng village minibus route.
I live in the village and minibus is the only means of transport home from school. In the morning, the minibus to the KCR station takes 15 minutes, but at night it takes just eight minutes.
Although the road is less congested at night, the driver should maintain the normal speed. Driving fast is especially dangerous on this route since the road has many bends, and is narrow in parts. I always feel like I am on a roller-coaster rather than a minibus.
Complaints concerning high-speed driving at night were made last year and some monitoring equipment has been installed in each minibus. When the vehicle goes beyond the speed limit, the equipment sounds to remind the driver. As a result, the situation improved for a time at the beginning of this year. Unfortunately, this improvement has not been maintained.
Another serious problem is the frequent use of mobile phones. I worry about our safety when the driver is talking on his phone while driving.
The villagers and I don't want to endure such 'exciting' journeys any more. But, making complaints to the minibus company only led to a temporary change.
