Man robbed of payout

A teenager who won almost $28,000 at the races lost his takings within hours after he was robbed on his way home from a celebratory dinner with friends.


The 19-year-old was knocked unconscious and robbed at about 3am as he walked home alone along Argyle Street, Mongkok, early yesterday, police said.


He came to 30 minutes later to find he had lost his remaining winnings of more than $20,000 along with his mobile phone and a gold necklace.


The unemployed kitchen worker was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital but refused treatment.


He told detectives he had won on a quinella on Sunday after staking $100. After collecting $27,750, he invited several friends to dinner followed by a karaoke session.
