Pokemon craze unhealthy

The Pokemon craze has taken Hong Kong by storm. Children have become obsessed with the squad of monsters from Japan. Pikachu, a yellow electric monster with horns, is the most popular Pokemon character.

Pokemon products range from video games and trading cards to stationery and toys. The trading cards are the most popular, espe cially in school playgrounds.

It is normal for children to adore cartoon characters, but the fad seems to have gone out of control. Children use all their pocket money to buy Pokemon cards.

Some of them collect these cards while others try to make mon ey by trading them. Perhaps children are becoming more and more materialistic. Some children even steal Pokemon cards from oth ers or fight over them at school.

Their academic performance also suffers as they cannot con centrate in class. Many schools have banned students from bring ing Pokemon cards to school.

I was also very fond of teddy bears and Hello Kitty when I was a child, but there was never any fighting or stealing.
