Upsetting sight
On a number of occasions recently, on the bridge from Admiralty Plaza to the Murray Road car park, I have seen a woman beggar (I'm not sure if it is always the same one) sitting on the ground carrying a young child, begging. This poor child even has to beg when it is cold.
Being a father of a one-year-old myself, I feel great sympathy for this child, especially when I think of how lucky my daughter is staying at home with a domestic helper to look after her, and how unfortunate and disgraceful it is that a child should have to endure this treatment and be used for the purposes of begging. How can this be allowed to take place in Hong Kong? Surely the Government should do something about such begging practices before they get out of control.
I do not know whether this is the responsibility of the police or the Social Welfare Department, but some government department should take action.
