Chance to learn a trade for school-leavers

The Vocational Training Council (VTC) will give advice and guidance to young people wish ing to find out more about post- Form Three career and training opportunities at its open day on Friday.

'The VTC is the only institu tion in Hong Kong that offers a full range of training to equip Form Three school-leavers with basic skills for employ ment,' said a VTC spokesman.

For the current year, over 2,500 youngsters are receiving training in the VTC's 17 indus trial training centres of hotel, plastics, printing, electronics and electrical.

An additional 600 training places for Form Three school- leavers are being planned for 2000-01.

During the open day of the VTC's training centre complex in Kwai Chung, young people and their parents will be able to view the practical working environment and advanced equipment of the training centres de signed for hands-on training.

Staff will distribute free resource materials and answer questions about the programmes on offer. Visitors can also take this opportunity to see demonstrations and a display of student assignments.

The Kwai Chung Training Centre Complex will open its doors from 9.30 am to 4 pm on Friday.

The VTC's Seamen's Training Centre will also participate in the centre's open day. The com plex is located on 13-19 San Kwai Street, Kwai Chung, New Territories.
