ACCOMMODATION ON AND OFF CAMPUS
REPORTS BY MICHELLE CHAK
There is an international student office to cater for the needs of overseas students at every university. The office arranges an orientation week in February and July one week prior to the new academic term to familiarise freshmen with the school campus and city environment.
Newcomers learn the basic survival skills under senior students' guidance, such as where to go to open a bank account, where to see a doctor and how to claim medical insurance and how to get to Chinatown.
Accommodation Residential halls on or near campus provide full board and facilities. But places are limited and early booking is necessary.
The cost of home stay varies around A$185 (HK$925) a week. Hosts may or may not offer full board. Students can also rent an apartment or share one with others. Private hostels and guesthouses are temporary options.
Living expenses amount to A$9,000 to A$12,000 a year, including accommodation, food and transportation.
