Air pollution levels high in February
AIR pollution levels at roadside testing stations were high every day last month, the latest figures from the Environmental Protection Department show.
Readings at roadside testing stations ranged between 56, on February 25, and 98, on the first of the month. When the level tops 100, people with heart or respiratory problems are advised not to exert themselves and to stay indoors.
Readings at the general stations were medium to high throughout February.
There were 22 successful prosecutions under air pollution laws, most of them over dust from building sites.
Complaints about smoky exhaust fumes from vehicles totalled 4,874 for the month. More than 3,000 vehicles had their emissions tested; 1,341 failed.
