Local golf equipment maker Barry Harris has been named Clubmaker of the Year 2000 by an international body of 30,000 custom clubmakers worldwide.
Harris, who operates Custom Clubmakers with partners Mick Wittering and Jake Ong on Peng Chau island, was selected over six winners from the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia by the American-based Professional Clubmakers Society (PCS) at a ceremony in Louisville, Kentucky.
The award is third international honour bestowed on Harris in the past four years. In 1997 he was named International Clubmaker of the Year by the Golf Clubmakers Association while last year he was honoured as Asian Clubmaker of the Year by the PCS.
Harris said custom-made clubs were more appropriate than off-the-rack clubs, which may not always be suitable for some players.
