Out of limelight but still on his toes

IT'S a question - always popped with raised eyebrows or furrowed brows - that one keeps frequently hearing around town: What's Chief Secretary Sir David Ford up to these days? As we know, since Governor Chris Patten arrived in town it's been a different ball game for everyone at Lower Albert Road - unlike in previous gubernatorial regimes when the surplus-to-requirements-at-Whitehall incumbent flitted between the colonial des-res on Upper Albert and the quaint cottage in Fanling smelling the roses and leaving the Chief Secretary to run the show (and the gauntlet).

But, as our picture shows, Sir David is in fine fettle, and with Lady Ford was executing a deft waltz or two at the Vienna Ball held at the Grand Hyatt where our snapper caught them.

We're also told that Sir David can be quite murderous with a tennis racket - but strictly on the court, of course.

So let's hope that answers all the cocktail circuit queries.
