Inside knowledge key to Uniform fashion

The trio who form the British label Uniform - sold in Joyce - were in town recently for UK Cut, a fashion extravanganza organised by the British Consulate-General to showcase British designers.

Roger Lee, Lesley Sealey and Chris Connors say they design and produce eclectic clothes for women who know themselves inside and out.

'An intelligent woman may ask herself what she gets from wearing our garments and how she feels when she wears it,' says Connors, the label's spokesman. 'If the answer is not wanting to be judged or looked at just from the outside, then Uniform is her kind of clothing.' Uniform's most famous client is Madonna, who spotted their designs while filming a Max Factor advert in Britain.

'Our designs range from pretty and feminine to basic and masculine,' says Sealey, who specialises in textile design. 'But take a look at the inside and what you see is a different story.' The 'inside' refers to details only the wearer knows about. Interior pockets made from lace and metallic piping are typical of Uniform's designs. And why the name? 'Uniform can mean school or military . . . it can be strict, naughty, sexy or innocent.' says Connors.
