Agassi claims ATP honour

Monaco: Andre Agassi was named ATP Tour Player of the Year for 1999, ending the six-year reign of fellow American Pete Sampras. The 29-year-old, who won the French and US Opens and was runner-up at Wimbledon, was honoured at the Tour's annual awards gala at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo. Indians Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes were named Doubles Team of the Year for the first time while Australia's Patrick Rafter won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.
