KEWELL VICTIM OF A CHEAT, FUMES O'LEARY

David O'Leary branded Galatasaray defender Gheorghe Popescu a cheat after the 2-2 draw.

The Leeds boss accused Popescu of feigning injury to get winger Harry Kewell sent off in a stormy first half. O'Leary also claimed inexperienced referee Lubos Michel's handling of the controversial second leg was 'a joke'.

O'Leary fumed: 'I've got two children and on their lives Popescu cheated getting a player sent off.

'It was an absolute joke. I know Harry didn't touch him. Popescu knows himself. I looked him in the eye and there was not a scratch on him. He should be ashamed of himself.' O'Leary also admitted Galatasaray defender Emre Belozoglu should not have been shown the red card either after what appeared to be an innocuous clash with Lee Bowyer.

O'Leary had no complaints with the Galatasaray goals, the first a penalty. 'Yes, it was definitely a penalty. I have no argument with the goals but the game was almost over after the penalty.

'The Turks got the goals, took them well and I've no complaints. I'm making no excuses about tired minds or tired legs. We made it hard for ourselves.'
