Doctors should be denied right to end life
As a Form Six student I would like to give my views on euthanasia and say why I think it is an evil act.
Euthanasia is the intentional killing of a person who is in deep pain and incurable as far as some people are concerned.
However, its definition is unclear and can be described as mercy killing, 'medicide' or assisted suicide.
But what is clear to me is how supporters of euthanasia deliberately disassociate what they do from the act of killing. Sometimes they call it passive euthanasia.
I am against euthanasia not only because of the unclear definition, but because I am concerned about the responsibility of doctors. The ability to cure a patient largely depends on the decision of the doctors. Similarly, the adoption of euthanasia for a patient is usually on the advice of a doctor.
I would like to point out that a doctor's responsibility is to cure a patient.
I urge the authorities not to give doctors the choice to kill people. Please let doctors concentrate on how to cure people.
Some people believe euthanasia gives patients a choice to end their lives peacefully and to be relieved of pain. It may seem that euthanasia is good news to patients with severe pain, but miracles can happen every day.
A new kind of medicine could be invented each day which can prolong life and relieve pain.
Moreover, there have been many cases where terminally ill patients have recovered. So why do we use euthanasia to replace pain, hope and miracles with death? The thought to end human life is only an impulse. Doctors or relatives may afterwards regret what they did, but time is not reversible. We should treasure life.
Are we gods? Should we control life in the world? Should we respect all life? Undoubtedly, we have the ability to hurt our bodies, or even commit suicide. Does it mean that we should do so because it is something that we are able to do? It is absolutely wrong to end life. If you believe in the existence of gods, only gods can control our lives. There will be no significance in survival.
Life should be respected and valued. Euthanasia is an evil which lures us to lose our sense of value in human life.
If someone was given the right to kill another person, then try to imagine just how unsafe the rest of the world would be.
