Station avoided public negotiations

I refer to the letter from ESPN Star Sports headlined, 'Exclusive blow to TV soccer' (South China Morning Post, May 2).

Breaking up is never easy whether it is business or personal relationships. When couples break up, it is very rare indeed that any partner can escape responsibility. Instead of wasting time pointing fingers or washing dirty linen in public, it would be a lot more meaningful to take care of the children first. This is what we did.

Customers do not want to miss their Champions League and UEFA Cup finals. Cable TV has taken the lead to bring the finals live back to Hong Kong on ATV. And the NBA play-offs will also be seen on ATV. None of the negotiations were conducted publicly. In our opinion, that is the best way to produce commercial results.
