Country folk raise $1.6m for good cause

It was a Country and Western theme at this year's Mother's Choice gala dinner at the JW Marriott Hotel. Guests dressed up in cowboy boots, stetsons and denim and were served dishes with names like Rocky Mountain High and Prairie Dog Prey.

Entertainment came in the form of the Anders Brothers Band, flown in from Colorado to perform classic country music songs. Mother's Choice chairman Ranjan Marwah and managing director Gary Stephens gave a touching presentation on the work of the charity, which counsels young girls with unwanted pregnancies and provides care for unwanted babies. An auction concluded the evening, where an anonymous gentleman bid $100,000 for a dinner date with actress Michelle Yeoh. Altogether the event raised more than $1.6 million.
