Discovery Bay dogs cause concern

Discovery Bay has always enjoyed a reputation of being a peaceful and safe place to live. It has also claimed to have a clean environment. Unfortunately this is increasingly inaccurate. The problem is that Hong Kong Resort have decided to adopt a policy of allowing unlimited dog ownership.

In the last two years the number of dogs in the enclave has multiplied dramatically. While the number of dogs has increased, controls have not. The result is that the environment is adversely affected for the majority of residents.

Dog owners often allow their dogs to run free and the noise from barking and the pollution from defecating in public areas and gardens is of serious concern for the suffering population. Hong Kong Resort has not acted on residents' complaints. They ignore the problem and so it just gets worse.

I recently heard a parent tell a young child not to play on the grass because it was dirty with dog faeces. What a farcical situation. I suggest that anyone thinking of moving to Discovery Bay should consider this environmental threat before deciding to rent or purchase a property there.
