A court in the central city of Taiyuan has sentenced to death one of the country's worst mass murderers, who killed 23 people after entering their homes posing as a radiator repairman.

Li Xiaolong, 35, a native of the capital of Ningxia province, Yinchuan, launched his reign of terror in February 1997 and committed 31 crimes in eight cities across five provinces in the north until his arrest on December 1 in Taiyuan, Shanxi, the Legal Daily reported.

To gain access to his victims' homes, Li pretended to be repairing radiators. He carried hammers and other tools which he used to kill and injure his victims, before stealing their belongings. He killed 23 people, left nine seriously injured and raped two women.
