THE Governor, Chris Patten, yesterday dismissed as hypothetical suggestions that Britain and China would re-negotiate any part of an agreement on political reform rejected by the Legislative Council.

On Tuesday, the British Foreign Office Minister with special responsibility for Hongkong, Alastair Goodlad, said legislators would be able to amend any such Sino-British agreement.

Britain would then discuss the changes with China.

''I think what Mr Goodlad was talking about was a hypothetical situation,'' Mr Patten said.
