Enough signs

UPDATED : Wednesday, 19 July, 2000, 12:00am

I refer to the letter headlined, 'New hazard' (South China Morning Post, June 26) on the new interchange at the junction between Clear Water Bay Road and Hiram's Highway in Sai Kung.

The following traffic signs have already been in place to alert motorists since the tunnel John Minns refers to was opened to traffic on June 20: Two 'Slow' road markings at the exit of the tunnel.

'Reduce Speed Now' signs just after the second 'Slow' road marking.

Two merging to main line traffic signs for motorists from the tunnel and, A traffic sign 'Merging Traffic From Right' for traffic turning from Clear Water Bay Road.

As the tunnel has just been opened, the traffic pattern has not yet settled.

To install additional traffic signs at this stage may further confuse drivers.

Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor the traffic situation and make improvements when the situation warrants.
