Satellite building starts

Asia Satellite Telecommunications has begun building its fourth satellite for an expected launch in the first half of 2002. Part of the capacity on AsiaSat 4 is expected to be used by broadcasters to offer direct-to-home services in Hong Kong. The satellite operator provides services to the broadcast and telecommunications industry. Earlier this year the company said it was arranging a US$250 million loan, part of which was earmarked for building the satellite.
