10-year-old falls 27 floors to his death
A 10-year-old mentally handicapped boy climbed through a window and fell 27 floors to his death after being left playing alone in the living room of his home in Kornhill yesterday.
The boy, surnamed Yim, fell out of the window at midday. Officers said the window was not fitted with a grille. 'The boy was left playing alone in the living room and his mother was in the bathroom,' a police investigator said.
A police officer said: 'A foot-height plastic stool was found near the window. We believe the boy stood on the stool and climbed up to the window where he fell out.
'His parents had done necessary home safety prevention measures and other windows were installed with grilles, but they apparently never expected he could climb so high.'
When his mother, 43, came out of the bathroom she saw he had disappeared and immediately ran downstairs to search for him. He was found lying unconscious.
He was taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital where he was declared dead.
