Hong Kong Baptist University has invited Nobel laureate Professor Sherwood Rowland, a pioneering atmospheric scientist renowned for his study of environmental problems, to speak at the Distinguished Lecture Series next month.

According to Professor Rowland, increasing concentrations of several gases in the atmosphere - of which carbon dioxide is the most important - can lead to an enhanced greenhouse effect, raising the earth's temperature by three degrees Celsius in the next century.
