A fleeing burglar stumbled into the grounds of a PLA barracks, where he was caught by two officers. Lam Wing-chun, 31, had burgled a bar at the United Services Recreation Club, close to Gun Club Hill Barracks in Yau Ma Tei, before rushing into the PLA grounds on June 21 this year, the District Court heard.

Prosecutor Lily Ho said members of the recreation club had left the bar unlocked when they went for dinner and on returning found their personal property, including bank cards, identity cards and a notebook computer, missing. Two PLA officers caught Lam half an hour later. Lam pleaded guilty to burglary and entering a closed area without a permit. Sentencing was adjourned to October 31 pending a drug addiction treatment centre report.
