Firms urged to join multinational marketing networks

Updated at 5.58pm, Thursday: Beijing has urged the mainland enterprises to make more efforts to integrate themselves in the world economy by taking on peripheral roles in the worldwide marketing networks of the multinational firms, China News Service reported on Thursday.

The assistant minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation (Motec), Ma Xiuhong acknowledged that it was a crucial step for the mainland firms to join the world economy by serving the transnational giants as suppliers.

Mr Ma believed that it would drive the mainland economy forwards and help attract more foreign investment into the country if Chinese firms could learn to work closely with the global major players on the sidelines. He called on foreign companies to help build up the outsourcing market in China.

Mr Ma said Chinese products were well received on the world market because the manufacturers managed to keep their prices low while they improved the quality and the sophistication of their products.

According to the news service, world business giants like General Electric, Hewlett Packard, Olympus, Motorola, Dell and IBM have all set up their own purchasing centres on the mainland.
