Water bombing planes fight mountain fire
Updated at 3.16pm: Firefighters battled a mountain blaze at Shatin for over 15 hours before extinguishing the flames on Wednesday morning.
''We tried to put the fire out as fast as possible,'' said Fire Services Department.
At around 5pm on Tuesday evening the fire broke out on A Kung Kok and began to spread up the mountain.
Nineteen fire engines and 107 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
However, water jets and fire beaters were unable to extinguish the fire quickly. As the flames spread to cover an area 800m by 1,000m, Government Flying Service water bombers were summoned to the fire early on Wednesday morning.
The fire was extinguished at around 8.30am.
''We think that the fire was caused by cinders left over by grave sweepers,'' said the spokesman.
Nobody was injured in the fire.
