US astronaut to visit
Updated at 5pm: Space fans can meet a distinguished US astronaut at the Hong Kong Science Museum this weekend, a Government spokesman announced on Wednesday.
Nasa astronaut George Nelson will visit on Saturday to promote science and technology education and discuss his experiences.
Dr Nelson was a Nasa astronaut from 1978 to 1989. He took part in the first on-orbit satellite repair mission in 1984. Dr Nelson was a pilot of the first operational flight of a manned manoeuvering unit and a primary extra-vehicular crewman.
He was also involved in re-working crew procedures and re-engineering space shuttle components and software following the Challenger tragedy in 1986.
An autograph session for children from 3-4pm well be held in the museum's foyer. Dr Nelson will present a lecture - 'Life in Space' - from 5-6.30pm in the museum lecture hall.
The spokesman said 290 people will be allowed to attend on a ''first-come-firstserved basis''. Admission will be free.
