Updated at 7.20pm: The South China Morning Post today announces an organisational change aimed at expanding and diversifying its coverage of China.

Our intention is to maintain and enhance our position as the leading English language source of news and information about China, both in print and online.

Wang Xiangwei, now with SCMP.com and formerly head of the China desk for Business Post, will assume the post of China Editor from November 20. Mr Wang will have operational and editorial control over all correspondents in Hong Kong who cover China for both the main news and business sections, as well as those in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
