Burning issue

The report headlined, 'Top official tells Tung he must improve on British rule' (South China Morning Post, November 6), referred to a demonstration outside Government House on Sunday when Li Ruihuan was attending a reception inside.

The report stated, 'About 80 police officers were stationed in the area. They burned a petition that the demonstrators were unable to hand to Mr Li.'

This gives the impression that the petition letter was burned by the police. In fact, it was set on fire by the petitioners themselves.
