Police yesterday admitted they made a mistake when they said a suspected prostitute was a transsexual.

The confusion over the 23-year-old Thai woman arose because of a misunderstanding in a conversation between officers and the suspect, they said. The woman was arrested with 11 other Thais in Shamshuipo on Monday and put in a male detention block. Police said the word 'male' appeared in her passport, but immigration officers confirmed she was a woman and that there was an error in the papers. Last night she was detained in a female cell in the Immigration Department office in Kowloon City.
