ROBBERS armed with knives raided a Chinese cargo vessel and escaped with a quantity of children's clothes off Green Island early yesterday.

Police believe eight or nine men climbed on to Gao Bao from a six-metre wooden boat at about 3.45 am when most of the crew were sleeping.

The thieves threatened two watchmen and warned them to keep quiet as they moved about 20 boxes of garments on to their boat before escaping.

Marine Police stopped a mainland vessel with nine men on board about 15 minutes later near Green Island, but found it was not connected to the earlier robbery.
