Residents of three squatter areas in Junction Road, Kowloon City, demanded the Government provide them with public housing flats in urban areas. The sites where more than 500 families are living are scheduled to be cleared in February. Some 80 per cent of residents are not eligible for rehousing because their family income exceeds the means test introduced by the Housing Department in 1998. But the residents said it was unfair to apply the means test to those who had moved into the squatter areas before 1998.
