A balaclava-clad gunman who raided a Yau Ma Tei hotel escaped after hijacking a taxi and a car. The man burst into the Pearl Garden Hotel in Nanking Street at about 4.30pm and threatened the manager and two staff with a gun before fleeing with $30,000 from a cashier's drawer.

The 40-year-old manager chased him into the street, where the man forced a driver out of her taxi and drove off. He crashed the vehicle into a bus at the junction of Gascoigne Road and Wylie Road, then threatened a police officer before ordering the driver of a Land Rover to take him to Hunghom. He got out near Wuhu Street and escaped.
