Anti-drug drive for festive season

With the festive season in full swing the Narcotics Division has launched an anti-drug publicity drive at places frequented by young people.

Commissioner for Narcotics Clarie Lo Ku Ka-lee, Action Committee Against Narcotics chairman Professor Lee Shiu-hung, other officials and nine volunteers distributed the leaflets and art cards highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse to owners of the bars and customers at Lan Kwai Fong.

The party also called on owners of bars and similar establishments to give assistance in distributing such leaflets and cards to their customers.

Mrs Lo said: 'It is expected that young people will frequent recreational venues more often during the Christmas and New Year holidays. More efforts therefore need to be put to enhancing preventive education and publicity, especially on psychotropic substance abuse, among the public.'

The police force will also help distribute such information to dance party organisers and remind them of the guidelines on organising safe parties as stipulated in a recently published Code of Practice for Rave Party Organisers.
