Dragon dance competition planned

The world's first international luminous dragon dance competition will be held in Hong Kong on January 6 and 7, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said on Monday.


Two local luminous dragon dance teams will face the challenge of six national or regional champions from the mainland, Taiwan, Japan, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore at the Hong Kong Coliseum.


''Four international lion dance invitation tournaments have been held in Hong Kong since 1992,'' the department spokesman said.


''To make the event more attractive a luminous dragon dance competition is added to this popular biennial tournament.''

Seventeen professional lion dance teams from Asia, Europe and North America together with three local teams, will compete for the world championship.


The tournament is organised by LCSD and the Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Association (HKCMAA).
