The SAR had not received any directives from Beijing to stop auctioning national relics, Information Co-ordinator Stephen Lam Sui-lung said. He was responding to a newspaper report that the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office had issued a directive last year to stop Christie's and Sotheby's auctioning looted national relics. The auctions went ahead and the items were bought by mainland-backed firms.
