Scientists have created the first genetically modified monkey. They hope the primate will herald a revolution in the understanding and treatment of hitherto incurable human diseases.

The rhesus macaque was born in October after researchers in the US state of Oregon added a gene for a green dye to his genetic material. The jellyfish gene was used as a marker to show proof of their success.
