Software maker Excel Technology has been appointed by the Securities and Futures Commission to provide system development and implementation services for the regulator's Investigation Management System (IMS).

The Growth Enterprise Market-listed company was also in talks with the SFC to develop other products, according to chairman Peggy Chan Mei-chu.

It is understood the SFC is looking for an information technology vendor to improve its compliance and surveillance computer system, and to set up a data base for information on the market and listed companies.

The IMS system is designed to improve case management by using workflow and digital imaging technology to reduce delays and inefficiencies in handling paper documents.

The system will also provide a common data repository and gateway for the regulator's information systems.

Excel last month signed an agreement with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to provide an integrated reserves and monetary management system.
