A CARGO vessel said it was fired on by a speedboat off Po Toi Island early yesterday. Marine Police received a message from the vessel, which said it was two miles northwest of the island and outside Hongkong waters, asking for help at 6.17 am.

The ship said it had been chased by two speedboats and someone aboard one of them had fired at the ship. When Marine Police launches arrived, officers saw a Chinese public security launch, Hai Guan 002, and one speedboat.
