Updated at 2.09pm: The Ministry of Agriculture has launched an online trading post at www.ap88.com to let farmers and processors trade foodstuff with a few mouse clicks.

Shenzhen Economic Daily on Thursday reported that the ministry worked with three Shenzhen-based IT firms to develop the trading post for goods such as sugar, dried fruits, poultry and dairy products.

The site charges members one to a few thousand yuan, but exact rates were not available. Site operators told Shenzhen daily they have registered more than 4,000 firms for trading and online payments.

The site requires buyers to put down a deposit as a credit guarantee. Site operators did not say how much commission they charged clients.

The ministry also offered members credit ratings so they can boost their business reputations and avoid risks, the paper said. The site also offered users a forum to express opinions about their online experiences.
