Two beaten Eric Saint-Martin mounts from Happy Valley are worth pursuing in the near future. Clear Master looked unlucky to be beaten when he dead-heated for fourth in the second event. Saint-Martin was rolling into the race along the inside rail by the 500 metres when the gaps closed and the five-year-old had nowhere to go. He picked up again to be handy at the finish.

Hong Kong Vitality had a different kind of problem in the fifth event, working throughout from a wide gate after going forward at the start. The gelding never really had any peace although he did finally get in two-wide outside the lead and he did a good job to be still there for third to Electronic Seeker in a race dominated by run-on types.AA
