I REFER to the letter headlined, ''Council should end bag ban'' (South China Morning Post, June 17).

I am pleased to inform your readers that members of the public will be allowed to bring their belongings into Kowloon Central Library with effect from next month when the installation of the book detection system for the library is completed.

The Urban Council has been installing book detection systems in its libraries by phases which are expected to be completed at the end of this year. So far, 22 of the 30 Urban Council libraries have already been installed with book detection systems and readers are free to bring their belongings into these libraries.

If your reader has any other queries, he is welcome to contact me during office hours at 9226 4050.
