A burglar fell to his death when he climbed out of a window from a ninth-floor flat to escape police in Shamshuipo yesterday. He and another man broke into the apartment in Shekkipmei Street at 2pm. A woman tenant, 40, and her boyfriend were at home at the time.

Police said the woman rang them as the two thieves were breaking in. Once inside, they robbed her boyfriend of a gold necklace and locked the couple in a bedroom. When police vehicles arrived, one of the burglars climbed out of the window but fell when a drying rack he was standing on collapsed. The 42-year-old man landed on a truck parked below, slightly injuring the driver. The other burglar, aged 46, was arrested.
