Hong Kong plane's win official

The Spirit of Kai Tak was declared the winner of the historic London-to-Sydney air race yesterday after beating 35 planes from 10 countries over the 22,500km journey. A helicopter flown by Colin Bodill and Jennifer Murray, wife of former Hutchison taipan Simon Murray, came third. The crew of the twin-engined Piper Aerostar - James D'Arcy, his father John, Mike Miller and Mark Graham - spent 55 hours actually flying during the four-week journey. Their entry was the first from Asia in the 90-year history of the race.
