Junior formers' stylish handiwork

It was a fashion show with a difference as models took to the catwalk wearing clothes designed from recycled material.

Junior form pupils of New Life Schools Incorporation Lui Kwok Pat Fong College in Kwun Tong

turned newspapers into shirts, plastic into blouses and drinking straws into hats before making shoes from pieces of discarded cloth.

Dance music accompanied smiling models as they showed off their handmade clothes to enthusiastic applause from the audience.

First-former Lemon Cheung Ting, 13, and her seven team members won the top prize with an evening gown made of hundreds of spray-painted paper leaves set off by a silver shawl fashioned from plastic bags.

'It was like an engineering project, but we enjoyed it a lot,' Ting said.

Principal Lau Man-fai served as one of the judges at the fashion show.
